My artistic philosophy draws heavily upon the anthroposophical view that art's purpose should be to bring an experience
of the spiritual into the material world. Since beauty is the primary vehicle through which the spirit shines into and resonates with
our senses, it is therefore the ideal toward which all of my work aspires.
I'm fascinated by Rudolf Steiner's observation
that clothing is an expression of the soul's experience in the spiritual realm prior to its incarnation in a physical body. The glass
beads I use in my wearable designs embody light (spirit) frozen in physical form (life on earth).
I am currently
working on several new pieces that incorporate knitting with beadwork. My goal is to create a new line of clothing and accessories
that combines the beauty of the beaded tops with the practicality of knitting. This will greatly reduce the time involved in the creation
of each piece, and thus, the price.
My overall artistic goal is to bring attention to the traditional "women's
arts" (beadwork, sewing, knitting, etc.) and show their intrinsic value as an expressive, artistic medium, despite their lack of valuation
by society as it now exists.
