"Traditionally, the gargoyle was a guardian and protector of the good. This
piece expresses the idea that the guardian of good must meet evil with equal
strength, which is why he appears so sinister and even demonic. The sphere
he rests upon represents both the solar and lunar realms. The sun has long
been associated with divine beings of good intent, while the moon signifies
the power he draws upon as twilight and evening approach."
